Common Furnace Problems
It is understandable that homeowners may panic if they wake up to, or come home to, a cold house in the dead of winter. But some furnace problems have simple solutions that you can take care of yourself. Here are some things you can check before calling for furnace repair:
Make sure the thermostat is set correctly.
It is surprising how often a thermostat is set incorrectly without a homeowner knowing it. This is especially true if you have family members who might adjust the settings without mentioning it. If your home doesn’t seem as warm as it should, check to be sure the thermostat is set to heat, and to the right temperature.
Make sure power to the furnace is on.
If your furnace is dead, there is a chance it is not a furnace repair issue but a power issue. Try checking to see if a circuit breaker or fuse was tripped or blown. On your circuit panel the circuit switches should be labeled, and one will control the furnace. Manually test the breaker by flipping it back and forth. If you are lucky, the furnace will kick on.
See if your furnace filters need to be changed.
If your furnace is working but seems to be struggling to produce heat, your problem may be clogged or dirty air filters. Filter changes are an important part of furnace maintenance, and they are also easy to overlook. This problem is fortunately very easy to fix with a filter change.
Furnace Repair: Customer Success Story
“Called due to furnace recycling every few minutes. Mike was here in about an hour. Verified our system was under warranty but did not try and sell us anything beyond what was needed. Some minor maintenance and we were back up and running. Explained everything he found and cleaned up. He also gave us a quote for the part to replace if the problem continues to occur but it was not necessary just for the sake of replacing it. Highly recommend and will use their service again.”

Proper air filtration is just as important to the health of your heating and cooling system as it is to the health of your family. Without proper filtration, dust and dirt can build up on your system, which impacts operation and efficiency. A high-efficiency filter will remove more dust, dirt, pollen, mold, and other particles from the air. If you suffer from allergies or other respiratory problems, you should strongly consider a high efficiency filter. No matter what type of filter you have – make sure you change it regularly.
This can occur for many reasons; uneven solar heat load through windows, an undersized system, improperly balanced or clogged system or a single system serving a two-story home with no zoning control. Each situation is different, usually requiring an onsite analysis with problem specific recommendations. Please call to arrange for us to see your home.
