It’s an old stereotype: women always complain about being cold and men about feeling hot.

I hear this the most when I meet with families to talk about their in home comfort choices. It’s the same in my home. Every night, I’m in shorts and a tshirt and my wife is dying of hypothermia. Thermostat is set at 71º btw.

So, what can we do?!

Well, more often than not, I grab my iPhone, tap the thermostat app and turn it up a couple degrees (while she’s looking). A few minutes later (wife not looking) back down to money saving degree. No getting up to the thermostat any more. I’m on my comfy couch or in bed already, it’s 2013! I have an app for that!

We do still have a thermostat on the wall (Honeywell Prestige) but I wonder why? I think in the near future we will just install a few (wireless) temperature sensors around the house and use apps to control the heating and air conditioning. An app on the phone, ipad, tv and oh yeah… computer. Continue reading

People with fuel oil heating must be rich!

I just read this article about oil for heating being taxed higher in Connecticut. So that’s not close to home but it brings up talking about fuel oil.

If you heat with fuel oil you must be rich. To afford that kind of heat is incredible. You’re not rich? then perhaps you haven’t seen the savings that new heat pump system offers.

We run operating cost scenarios, a lot, for customers switching to a high efficiency Heat Pump system and see real word, conservative (modest ranch homes), savings of well over $1200 a year! You can see why one might assume you’re rich if you’re throwing away $1200 a year. Continue reading

Vintage

I like clean vintage stuff. I think a lot of people do.

For Valentines day I took my bride for a walk at the antique mall. We thought it was romantic to hold hands and walk. It was warm and fun to look at old stuff.

I like reminiscing about old toys and magazines. I’m always looking for classic bicycle stuff and of course hvac stuff.

The other day I was in a customer’s house and all her furniture is 40-50 years old. It was very well maintained and though vintage, it was new looking and even “in style” again.

You know what was old and not very attractive? The furnace. Even if that old furnace or air conditioner looks good or “vintage cool” it probably isn’t worth the utility payment to keep around. I know that loud, dirty, expensive machine feels like it’s become a part of the family, but now it’s time to go! Continue reading

I got an interesting email today

Dear Hauser Air, This email was sent automatically because your “Office Show Room” system settings have been updated.
…the email said.

Really? So whats that all about then?

Technology!
We had a training meeting at the office today for our technicians. The trainer, a Carrier expert, had a look at our thermostat settings and showed some of our technicians some extra features.

Offended
This thermostat is actually offended if I call it “just a thermostat”. Because it so much more. It truly is a modern marvel of technology. The Infinity Control by Carrier is a learning, diagnosing, smart comfort command center (my words). Continue reading

Humidity

It’s 65º in Cincinnati and 80% humidity outside according to my sensor. Yet I have received more than a few calls today about humidifiers! Fair enough, they were calling from conversations last week about not having enough humidity when it was cold.

You see, the average home, in the cold of winter, is recycling air through the furnace and burning the humidity out of the air. Some homes indoor relative humidity drops to 10% or less (that’s dry, like the Sahara dessert dry!). Carrier says that’s the average humidity in an un-humidified home.

We installed a humidifier in our home for multiple reasons. Continue reading

Flu Virus. Find safety in your home!

It seems all the talk is about the flu right now. I know a few people who are fighting the flu and a few more just getting over it. You are thinking of someone right now… “Did I wash my hands after seeing him?”

With this much spread, it’s bound to come into the home through a family member. We do as much as we can to clean surfaces and sanitize but what about the airborne germs?

A few years ago, Carrier introduced a revolutionary product that has changed the lives of my family and many of our customers. The Infinity Air Purifier. It pulls germs out of the air and electrocutes them! I am certain that it has cut down the amount of colds and allergy issues we have had in our family. I hear this feedback from our customers on a regular basis as well. Another plus is the amount of dust it removes. We have two Infinity Air Purifiers in our office at Hauser Air and throughout the summer of construction on 42 on one side of our building and the baseball fields on the other we have had minimal dust to show for it.
