Common Air Conditioner Repair Issues
My air conditioning system will not kick on.
This problem could be as simple as replacing the batteries in your thermostat. If a fresh set of batteries does not solve the issue, there may be a problem with your thermostat settings. Confirm that your system cooling system is on and that the temperature setting is correct. If you are still having problems, try resetting the circuit breaker.
A connection problem can also prevent the motor and compressor from turning on, in which case you should make an appointment for air conditioning repair service.
The air coming from the vents is not cold.
If you have been neglecting air conditioner maintenance, you could have a dirty air filter that is causing your problems. A dirty air filter will prevent proper airflow, and eventually compromise your condenser unit. Change the air filter as soon as possible to see if this fixes the problem. Moving forward, change the air filter regularly to avoid future problems or look into a Pro Service Plan that takes care of maintenance for you.
My air conditioner is not keeping consistent temperatures
Inconsistent cooling could be the result of a coolant leak within your air conditioning unit. Other problems a leak can cause include low efficiency, high power use, and compressor damage. Even if you do not see signs of a coolant leak, it is important to have it inspected by a knowledge expert to avoid compounding problems.
My air conditioner is making unusual noises
If your air conditioner is having issues, it could produce a variety of unusual sounds. The type of sound you hear could indicate what the problem is:
- Hissing sound – could mean a coolant leak
- Clicking sounds when turning AC on and off – could be a relay problem
- Thumping, rattling, or banging – could be an issue with a blower or motor assembly
- Screeching sound – could indicate a compressor or fan motor problem
- Buzzing sound – might be from faulty electrical components
- If you have been hearing odd noises, be sure to mention it to your technician.
AC Repair: Customer Success Story
“Have worked with Hauser for a few years now. Always very friendly and responsive. Had an A/C issue one time and they couldn’t get to us for a few days but then called when they had a cancellation and fit us in earlier. Alec came out and was very helpful and even talked me through some things to watch for and do to avoid future issues. Would highly recommend Hauser!”

Proper air filtration is just as important to the health of your heating and cooling system as it is to the health of your family. Without proper filtration, dust and dirt can build up on your system, which impacts operation and efficiency. A high-efficiency filter will remove more dust, dirt, pollen, mold, and other particles from the air. If you suffer from allergies or other respiratory problems, you should strongly consider a high efficiency filter. No matter what type of filter you have – make sure you change it regularly.
This can occur for many reasons; uneven solar heat load through windows, an undersized system, improperly balanced or clogged system or a single system serving a two-story home with no zoning control. Each situation is different, usually requiring an onsite analysis with problem specific recommendations. Please call to arrange for us to see your home.
A difference of 6 decibels (such as between 72 dB and 78 dB) is technically a four-fold increase in compressor sound when rating air conditioners or heat pump units. However, it takes a difference of 10 decibels to double the loudness. It is also noted that it takes approximately 3 decibels for the average human ear to discern any difference in loudness at all.
Great strides have been made in reducing the operating sound level of equipment. We will be happy to show you the difference in sound ratings with our product line.
