Why Air Conditioner Maintenance Is Important

Like your vehicle, your air conditioning system needs routine care to protect your investment and assure its proper performance. Typically an air conditioning system consists of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit, which are connected by electrical wiring and copper tubing. The compressor is located within the outdoor unit and circulates chemical refrigerant throughout the system via the copper tubing. Heat is drawn from the indoor air using an evaporator coil and is expelled from the system through an outdoor condensing coil. Cool air is blown into the home via the ductwork, as the heat goes outside.

With normal operation, things like dirt, dust, and debris can accumulate on the air conditioner’s internal components and affect system performance. Moisture from condensation and microbial growth can also occur, which can lead to corrosion of the evaporator coil and condenser coil. Left unaddressed, these issues will cause the air conditioner to become less effective and efficient, or to quit working altogether.

AC Maintenance: Customer Success Story

“Our most recent visit was great, as always. Our technician, Rob, explained everything he was doing to the system so I could understand what was going on. Always competent and professional, I would recommend Hauser Air for your heating and cooling needs. We switched to them several years ago for our annual maintenance after a technician spent 30 minutes on the phone with me one evening, answering some questions I had about a Nest thermostat. Our provider at the time wanted to charge me $100 to come out before they’d tell me anything. Hauser won my business that day.”

(which also manufactures Amana), Bryant, Trane, York and Rheem are some of the brands we see most often. Here is a list of other popular brands we service. Don’t see your brand listed here? Give us a call to confirm we can perform service on your equipment.
    • Yes. Keeping your system properly maintained will lower energy and repair costs, prevent breakdowns and prolong the life of your equipment. Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases.
    • Without warranty coverage, a breakdown can mean significant expense in parts, labor, or both. However, with one of our service agreements, you avoid that unexpected significant expense. While no warranty can guard against every possible problem, we can explain the broad range of protection our service agreements afford.
    • Upgrade to a high-efficiency air conditioner – Swapping your old, inefficient air conditioning system for a high-efficient one can cut electricity bills by one-third. Consult one of our professional technicians to ensure your system is the right size for your home, and you aren’t over- or under-cooling for your space needs.Turn up the temperature – To save electricity during the summer, set the temperature above 25° as every degree below this will add an extra three to five percent to your energy bill.

Install ceiling fans – Change the direction of airflow on your ceiling fans. In the summer, the blades should operate in a counter-clockwise direction as a way of creating a nice, gentle wind.

Have an annual maintenance performed – Having an annual maintenance performed on your air conditioner by a licensed technician will help ensure it operates at its peak efficiency and catches any potential breakdowns before they occur.

Don’t block vents in well-used rooms – Keep your supply and return air vents free of objects like blinds, carpets or furniture so your air conditioner can operate efficiently and there is even cool air distribution.

Close vents in less-used rooms – By closing the vents, you won’t be spending money cooling rooms that are used less.
